Mythic Memoir Writing to Birth a Thriving Future

While the current world seems to be torn by many destructive forces such as climate change, mass extinction, corrupted politics and pandemics, a future of inter-connectedness, wellness and beauty is also blossoming through these destructions every moment. Like a baby, this fresh future is subtle and delicate. We will need to develop a new set of eyes to see her, and new forms of hearing to listen to her. This future is not in a faraway land, or promised by an abstract ideology. This future is held right within the inner core of our very being.

In this course, we approach memoir writing as a transformational path to refine our sensory capacities, renew our sense-making and expand our consciousness. We will focus on a sensuous, compassionate perspective of one’s life in all its glory and messiness, its light and shadow, restoring the integrity of parts of ourselves subjugated by oppressive societal forces.

We will invite a narrative arc that connects the personal to the transpersonal and collective, with an active weaving of the mystical thread within mundane life. (Read an example of mythic memoir writing in Spring’s story here.) Through writing and sharing our stories with each other, we weave a “womb” within our own being to birth the future where all life can thrive.

Free Introductory Sessions. Register for One or All Four!

Session 1: Unearth the Primal Intelligence of your Original Self. Monday, Oct. 28, 12-1 pm PT, 3 – 4 pm ET.

As Earthlings, we are born with an Original Self harboring primal intelligence from the womb of Mother Earth herself. Yet the spell of the dominant techno-materialistic-individualistic culture can block us from accessing this intelligence. Get a taste of the power that is unleashed when you reconnect with your Original Self by unearthing early memories and experiences. Register for Session 1

Session 2: Find Meaning in Your Experience of Wounding. Monday, Nov. 11, 12-1 pm PT, 3 – 4 pm ET

Along our life path, the Original Self inevitably clashes with, and is wounded by, cultural conditioning and societal/familial expectations. The imprints of wounding can be traced like stepping stones, leading back to your Original Self and its primal intelligence. Writing our way along this path, we are able to see our past experiences in a new light, and tap into the creative potential that can be found shimmering amidst the shards of old wounds. Register for Session 2

Session 3: Listen for the Call of Purpose. Monday, Nov. 25, 12-1 pm PT, 3 – 4 pm ET

We are each born with a purpose that is the North Star of our life, guiding us to navigate through challenges, losses and even death. Purpose is not an intention from our ego, nor is it a basic need to be met. The clues to our purpose are often hidden in the shape and texture of our experiences of wounding, along with the persistent thread of our most deeply held passions. What is your purpose? In this session dedicated to deep listening, you will begin to explore this key question. Register for Session 3

Session 4: Connect with Your Mythical Allies. Monday, Dec. 2, 12-1 pm PT, 3 – 4 pm ET

When we are connected with our purpose, we are positioned to receive support and empowerment from mythical allies, intelligences larger than ourselves. These archetypal energies have been pictured and described in many ways by all human cultures. In this session, we’ll explore the mythical allies most in resonance with your life path, how they have shown up at different key moments in your life experience, and how you can become more intentional in calling them in to support and uplift you. Life-as-Oracle: Renew the Ancient Art of Divine Governance

This course will prepare you for the sequel course, Life-as-Oracle and Divine Governance Part 2, the ancient art of I Ching renewed through Spring Cheng’s life work with the Resonance Code. In all ancient cultures around the world, people engaged in various divination arts to invite the future to speak and provide guidance. The Chinese I Ching is one such system, dated as early as six or seven thousand years ago, well before patriarchy and our current known history started.

The  I Ching as we know it indeed took the form of a biography, detailing the story of how King Wen, the leader of a small tribe, was able to defeat a powerful tyrant of the Shang Dynasty 商 and set the foundation for the Zhou dynasty 周, one of the most influential periods in China’s two thousand years of pre-modern history. In King Wen’s effort of establishing Zhou, he reinvented the I Ching from a previous form, and engaged it to commune with the collective destiny of China.

Before the modern time, the purpose of the I Ching oracle had always been primarily oriented towards being in the service of the collective destiny. The governors and leaders who cast the I Ching invited the future of their clan, tribe and country to “speak” as a personal insight, which in turn guided their actions and choices in engaging with their community.

The Resonance Code is a modern reinvention of this practice. When we cast our personal story in the context of social change, and connect our personal narrative with planetary shifts, we are in the position to practice this ancient form of divine governance, advancing our individual development through connecting our personal journey with the collective destiny.

The Life-as-Oracle series of courses are part of the core curriculum in the Living Resonance Leadership MA/PhD program at Ubiquity University. For those who are interested in joining the degree program, please contact us.
