A Poetic Journey to Belonging: Attuning to Our Interconnected World

Through Maps of the Tao Hidden in Chinese Characters

Language shapes our perception of reality. Modern languages center around doing, productivity and efficiency, creating polarities such as us-versus-them, good-versus-bad, right-versus-wrong. Trapped in these perceptions, we can be blocked from the truth our heart remembers, susceptible to fear, isolation and emotional manipulation of disruptive narratives from media and other sources of alarm.

At a time of mounting fracture and divisiveness, it is even more necessary to attune to the deeper layer of the interconnected world.

The Tao is a living stream of knowledge flowing from the ancient times, tracing back to when Earth-centered consciousness was a way of being. Chinese characters enfold maps of the Tao as layers of meaning, imagery and metaphor. This language style enriches the felt-sense and feelings through poetic expressions. Through this portal, one experiences more of an inter-connected, living world.

This offering features a meditative and creative approach to attune to the maps of the Tao hidden in a set of Chinese characters. Through these characters as portals, you will awaken your ancient senses attuned to the interconnected world, and restore the original wisdom of your heart that you have not met. Together, we will embark on a poetic journey to discover the medicine of belonging in the chaotic and beautiful world we inhabit today.

Below are examples of the kind of “medicine” we will make together.

Course Instructor Sara Airoldi, M.Ed., Bioluminescence Consulting. Sara grew up in the conflux of European American identity and the diasporas of intercultural, intersectional ways of being. Her poetry opened into being in the world (beyond “should” and “good”) through an invitation to a “creativity playground” and the inspiration and courage of poets including David Whyte, Mai Der Vang, Mary Oliver, Billy Collins, Maya Angelou, Joy Harjo, Renee Maria Rilke, Ani Difranco, and Amanda Gorman. Her poetry is a place of deep listening to where she is at, and a traveling into the unknown that is meeting her. Her style of introducing poetry to others is through creating conditions of empowerment for them to hear themselves, and the questions waiting to be born. Read her full bio here.
